Magic isn't new to him, and since this magic is clearly not the magic he already knows then it's not going to be of much benefit to him. Or so he thinks. In his world you can't learn magic from sources beyond your own magic school, so the display is more of a "this is what my temporary co-workers can do" kind of thing for him.
