Chess is as familiar to Lalli as just about any game is: it's something that is supposedly fun, and he knows the basics enough to understand how it works, but Lalli himself has never seen the appeal of it. He's not really one for games to begin with, and the rules of Chess in particular seem easy enough at first but always devolve into 'you can't do that, your king is in check' any time he tries to play it.
But who knows, maybe this time won't be as bad as the others. Sure, talking to strangers is an exercise in patience to begin with, but at least there's not a language barrier inhibiting his ability to communicate basic ideas to others. He might as well make use of being able to talk to someone without having to resort to his terrible Swedish or some form of charades.
"Not usually," Lalli answers honestly, not quite meeting Malcolm's eyes as he watches the man. Unsure, slightly skittish, definitely paying attention even if eye contact is difficult. He hasn't yet sat down at the other spot, but he's considering it. "But I know the rules."
